Tyre Flipping Mad for international humanitarian organisation, Human Appeal

2025 Tyre Flipping Mad raising money for international humanitarian organisation, Human Appeal.

We are proud to partner with Phil Pugh and his Newcastle Tyre Flipping event for another raising funds for the international humanitarian organisation, Human Appeal.

The business is a key backer of the annual Newcastle GOES Flipping MAD fundraiser, which this year was held on Saturday 21 June along the city’s famous Quayside.

The event saw participants flip two 100kg tractor tyres continuously for 12 hours to raise funds for the charity. This year’s effort raised more than £600 in donations, supporting Human Appeal’s efforts to establish healthcare, education, and livelihood programmes in crisis-hit communities around the world.

The annual fundraising challenge has now been running for five years and in that time has raised thousands of pounds for charity. New Bridgegate Tyres has supplied the tyres used in challenges since its inaugural year in 2021.

James Bowman, Director, New Bridgegate Tyres and HiQ franchise partner, said: “We were very proud to champion the Newcastle GOES Flipping MAD challenge once again, supporting Human Appeal’s life-changing work around the world. As a HiQ franchise partner, community engagement is a core part of our ethos, and this event is a powerful example of how the tyre trade can come together for good. It was especially fantastic to see team members from our newest franchise at HiQ Tyre Expert Newcastle taking part on the day. We will remain committed to supporting this initiative in the years ahead and helping raise vital funds for worthy causes.”

New Bridgegate Tyres supports Local Tyre-Flipping Event for the YMCA Charity on Newcastle Quayside

New Bridgegate Tyres supports Phil from ADEPT and One Take Fitness to hold an exciting Tyre-Flipping Event along the Newcastle quayside on November 2nd, raising funds for YMCA North Tyneside.

The event, which was a great success, brought the community together for an inspiring cause, highlighting the spirit of fitness, teamwork, and charity. Among the participants were Brian Graham, Depot Manager for Birtley, and John Leydon, one of our skilled Commercial Tyre Technicians. The event helped drive donations for YMCA North Tyneside, supporting vital programs and services for the community.

With a fantastic turnout and great energy, the Tyre-Flipping Event reflected our commitment at New Bridgegate Tyres not only to service excellence but also to giving back to the communities we proudly serve.

Keeping an eye on your tyre wear is essential for road safety and ensuring your vehicle performs at its best.

One simple way to check if your tyres need replacing is by looking at the wear indicators, which are built into every tyre.

What Are Tyre Wear Indicators?

Tyre wear indicators are small, raised bars of rubber located in the grooves of the tyre tread. They are designed to show you when the tread has worn down to the minimum legal limit, which in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre.

How to Check Your Tyre Wear Indicators

Locate the wear indicators: Look inside the main grooves of your tyre tread. You’ll see small raised bars running across the groove – these are the wear indicators.
Check the level: If the surface of the tyre tread is worn down to the same level as the wear indicators, your tyres are at the legal limit and need replacing. Ideally, you should consider replacing them before they reach this point, as grip decreases significantly when tread depth is below 3mm.
Perform this check regularly: Make it a habit to inspect your tyres at least once a month or before long journeys. Don’t forget to check all four tyres!

James Bowman & Philip Wilks joined more than 130 delegates, as well as HiQ franchisees, members of the HiQ Council and Goodyear UK’s retail associates, attending the Jaguar Experience Centre in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, for a full day of business discussions and training.

The daytime session included updates from Marketing, Fleet, Brand and Strategy as HiQ looks ahead to the future of its retail operations. This included overviews of the company’s new business models and growth strategy. The conference continued into the evening with the HiQ Pride Awards Ceremony, dinner and entertainment at The Belfry Hotel & Resort. The theme was pink tie in aid of Breast Cancer Now, HiQ’s long-term charity partner. More than £3,500 was raised on the evening, which will go directly to help support breast cancer research and the development of vital treatment.

We were honoured to win the HiQ Goodyear Business of the Year Award 2024 presented by Craig Sprigmore, Goodyear Retail Director UK & Ireland.

The Wolsingham Show is a highlight of County Durham's calendar, known for being the biggest and best open-air agricultural show in the region. This year, on the 7th and 8th of September, New Bridgegate Tyres had the pleasure of joining the excitement, bringing tyre demonstrations and a thrilling tyre fitting competition to the second arena. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our skills, engage with the local community, and immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of this traditional agricultural event.

A Showdown in the Second Arena: Tractor and Truck Tyres Go Head to Head

The highlight of our participation came on Saturday afternoon when two of our top technicians, Steve Brown and Jack Watson, went head-to-head in a live tyre-changing competition. With the local crowd eagerly gathered around the second arena, Steve and Jack faced the ultimate challenge: who could change a tractor tyre and a truck tyre the fastest?

The atmosphere was electric, with spectators cheering on the competitors as they demonstrated the speed, precision, and skill required to handle these heavy-duty tyres. It wasn't just about speed; it was also about showing the crowd the expertise involved in professional tyre fitting – an essential service that helps keep agricultural vehicles and trucks running safely.

Bringing the New Bridgegate Tyres Experience to the Wolsingham Show
